It should be noted that many international sports tournaments have strict rules against politics, political banners, slogans, symbols, etc being featured. In the west they probably would have ignored those to allow this to happen but most likely it’s just the Chinese enforcing an existing rule with vigor.
I’d imagine western hosted tournament would have reacted aggressively if one were to show a banner with children murdered by US in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yugoslavia, Panama, the list goes on

They absolutely do, there were multiple incidents with just flags of Palestine for example.
