Would it be OK with the membership here on lemmygrad if yours truly makes a Battle Sub showing similar videos and news of the SMO?

I’ve got some reservations about a battle footage sub. The reddit ones are pretty cruel and reactionary, and it would be difficult to appropriately tag posts with content warnings and such.

After some thought, I’ve hardened my stance and would actively campaign against a dedicated battle footage community.

OK, Shouldn’t people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is? Most in the West have an abstract view, which allows them to support the Western cruelty and obnoxious foreign policy. As one who has seen battle, I think it’s essential. It is what it is.

Are you an admin of lemmygrad? Regardless, thanks for the response and your opinion. ☺️

“Are you an admin of lemmygrad?”.

        “Membership”.

“OK, Shouldn’t people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?”.

The battle footage subs are all people laughing at poor desperate people getting blown up.

OK, Shouldn’t people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?

I think people can and do already see snippets of that without a dedicated sub. A whole sub of it seems gratuitous and likely to raise problems others have pointed out.

A little can be good for keeping perspective, a lot usually turns into gawking or worse.

I think this is the most reasonable response here. We shouldn’t have a dedicated comm for it, honestly. It will just be seen as cruel and pointless gawking; akin to the ones we see on reddit. Small snippets or pieces for major conflicts or offensives I can see being reasonable, or certain footage of exceptional events/etc.

I aint a “admin of lemmygrad” though, so take my word with a grain of salt.

OK, Shouldn’t people see the real cost of war and how brutal it is?

I dont think any of us are ignorant to this. Remember, every death is a tragedy when it is the working class getting blown up, there is nothing to celebrate about some random conscript who was probably a janitor or teacher and who has been forced to fight being killed.

I want the war to end, today.

I think the distinction should be the audience, on reddit, the cruelty is the point though I do think the mods should be ready to pull the lever at the first instance of the sub becoming anything like reddit. With that said, I personally hate this and am probably gonna be blocking this sub from my feed

I don’t think the cruelty can be removed from viewing violence as a casual spectacle, if that makes sense. I don’t think you can casually watch horrific violence as entertainment and still keep your humanity.

That’s not fair - as one that was a career soldier that has experienced death and war, I’ve still got “humanity”, whatever that means. Same could be said of poor folk living in a world of violence, or paramedics, and police officers. If anything many of us having experienced such tend to want less violence. Which is why I’m so against my country being involved in this forever war BS for the sake of the oligarchs profiting of it, and the rest of us paying the price for their greed etc. The Military Industrial Congressional Complex in other words.

Yeah, I guess, it doesn’t make sense for it to be on a site like lemmy if it’s for education or recording
