Albert Pot and Theo Grijp were murdered by fascists on May 23rd 1936. They were notified how a group of fascists were hanging around their Union building and decided to confront them. One of them pulled out a revolver and shot at Albert and Theo. They died on the way to the hospital.

After this, over 500.000 Union members laid down their work in what is one of the biggest general strikes in Belgium. The strike eventually led to the right to paid vacation in Belgium and to a better collaboration between the three big Unions.

Every year the Antwerp Unions remember the death of Albert and Theo. Rest in Power ✊🏼
