    Too bad the people don’t actually get a choice on who to vote for. Any opposition figures that got too popular got jailed leading up to the election. The election was a transparent farce.

          Did you check the sources for that “sham election” claim? They’re all from a country who literally started a covert war against the sandinistas in the 80s.

            I see that you’ve already gotten in an edit war over sources on Wikipedia, so I won’t retrod that discussion here. That said, I’m not sure what you mean by all the sources being from the US, since a cursory glance at the sources shows a large number of countries. However, I want to pose a question. If Nicaragua does indeed have free and fair elections, why do a large number of opposition figures that have nothing in common keep getting exiled, imprisoned, or otherwise kept off the ballot? Is that not at least wildly suspicious?

      the jailed persons in question were unwilling to disclose the funding they’d received from US NGOs. get bent, neocon
