They are choosing to pay parents $300 each instead of just paying bus drivers better? Absolute nonsense

The district currently has about 210 bus drivers and is able to use 13 additional approved contracting companies to supplement their bus service.

The school district has about 105 vacancies and is actively hiring through its website.

Students who live more than one to one-and-a-half miles from their school, as well as students on education plans that have curb-to-curb transportation service required, are eligible for the transportation plan.

Approximately 13,000 families are currently enrolled in the plan. Families have until the end of September to apply for this program.

      So, it’s millions.
But it does seem like this is for “difficult to bus” students.

Okay hear me out, what if this was paid on a per child basis, and you buy a bigger car like a minivan perhaps so you can get more kids into it and drive them all to school all at once? With the added bonus that you’re not contributing as much to traffic too

What would you call that? How about “omnibus” from Latin meaning “for all.” You could call it an “omni” or “nibu” for short.

Turns out it literally never would in the US.

Fuck it. Go electric, call it the “Omnibus-EV 69420 super cruiser long range FSD edition” (FSD in name only, it doesn’t work and will never work), and Musk just might accidentally fund it himself!!

Damnit I read that backwards. I was like 300/month not to drive? Fantastic!

    Ugh, now I’m sad.

Wow. In Germany, it’s illegal to drive your kids to school.

Sure the planet is heating up faster, but at least we could spend less money on education…

As an aside I read this as carbonated instead of carbrained and thought this was going to be about something else.

My old high school just sold all their buses, and it seems the bus pass they gave out is temporary.

Let’s add buses to reduce traffic. Let’s pay parents to reduce driver needs. Let’s run around in circles.
