    I am a bit OOTL about the situation in Ukraine following the 2014 coup. Who would Russia be protecting Ukrainian civilians against according to him?

      It’s the protection of the citizens of Donbas against the Ukrainian military and the Azov battalion.

        Oh ok that makes sense to me. I thought Russia went past Donbas into Ukraine.

          From my understanding, they’ve attacked Ukraine’s military infrastructure to make it more difficult for them to regain control in the two separatist regions.

          So it’s protecting the civilians of Donbas by crippling the military of Ukraine.

            Yeah. This is starkly different from what the media is trying to imply (that they are trying to annex Ukraine or something like that).

              We’ll have to wait to see what the result of this is, and I can only hope for the best.

              If the western media is right and it is an annexation, then I’ll admit to being wrong. But it really doesn’t look like that, so I’m going to keep giving Russia the benefit of the doubt for now.

                Turns out, NATO media was wrong and Russia never invaded in the end. This chaos should end in the next 12 hours or so. It will not be a Crimea 2.0, and things went just as I thought they would have escalated.
