Albert Szymański predicted in 1984 that immigration to the people’s republics would increase as their living standards exceeded those of the surrounding anticommunist régimes. Although he clearly had Eastern Europe in mind, his prediction can still be reapplied to the People’s Republic of China, which is on its way up while anticommunism is on its way down (as it should be).

what are people trying to achieve when they say “but you grew up in [American city]” when someone says they moved to an AES country?
I think its an appeal to patriotism, which for someone who has parents from two countries, is their decision and no one elses, which one, if any, they feel closer to.
And of course anglos can’t fathom ppl not standing for the settler flag.

Not really. She said on IG that she wants to break boundaries, and still feels both USian and Chinese. She also said she wants to inspire Chinese girls to become athletes like she was inspired in the USA. No word on her passport statuses.
Edit: I wrote not really because from her responses I feel they don’t answer the exact question of why she chose to represent China.
I read that the choice was made when she was 15. At that age considering how heavily involved parents are in the lives of prominent young athletes, her parents must have had heavy influence in the choice so I guess it makes sense that she is not very vocal about it.
