Given that I’m going to China (and Russia) this summer, I’m rather pleased with this development. One less Visa is nice.
Honestly I’m surprised their doing this. Canada is consistently in lock step with US imperialism, so I’m not entirely sure why there’s been a shift.
Could Canadian comrades explain whether the Canadian ruling class has genuinely recognized the reality that the US is a sinking ship, or is this an attempt to extract concessions from the US, or something else entirely?
A bit too early to tell at the moment. It’s definitely a reaction to the US attacking Canada economically. We’re fairly heavily dependent on oil exports here too, so the whole Venezuela fiasco probably scared the oligarchs here as well. I’m guessing Canada will still gravitate towards the US in the end, but seems like the door is being kept open a crack just in case.
I look forward to Canada joining BRICCS.
