This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers — if that technology could be developed in time.

What they truly want out of technology is the ability to remain filthy rich and privileged without being dependent on other’s labour which we know is impossible. They want to be gods who can just kill the rest of us or move to Mars or something. And they’re not special because every oligarch in history has wanted that and every one has failed. What’s worse is, many of them actually believe they will survive a nuclear Armageddon. My personal hypothesis is, they want to be able to make it looke like we used nukes in self defense. I really think they expect there to be enough Americans left in the aftermath for them to rule over. And they want to be able to go to these people and say " we had to do it in order to save what we could. You should be grateful. Of we didn’t destroy the world, the evil commonest would have killed all of us. "
