That’s my biggest fear as well. Hopefully the oligarchs realize that it would be mutually assured annihilation.

I’m not sure sociopaths have forethought of all possible consequences. Shoot, not many normal people can conceive of all possible consequences. I guess we’re about to see!

Dang Yoggi got himself a personal enemy, judging by the dv pattern. Someone loves shooting the messenger!

They literally think they can outlast it in bunkers and shit. Or go to their resort in South Africa or some shit.

I imagine that deep down even they realize that their standard of living managing a declining empire will be far better than one where they have to live out the rest of their living like rats in bunkers.

Even if they aren’t aware of it, they better also bring an army of totally autonomous humanoid robots to serve them cuz there’s no way the workers they bring with them aren’t just gonna gang up and eat them in like 6 months

this was a pretty hilarious read on the whole thing https://archive.ph/l3Djh

This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from the angry mobs. But how would they pay the guards once money was worthless? What would stop the guards from choosing their own leader? The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers — if that technology could be developed in time.

A good read, thank you! Really puts into words my thinking on these fears that the oligarchs will just go to their Vault Tec bunkers and leave us all for dead: they’d be screwed anyways because that environment is even LESS favourable for the exploitation they need for their lifestyles.

What they truly want out of technology is the ability to remain filthy rich and privileged without being dependent on other’s labour which we know is impossible. They want to be gods who can just kill the rest of us or move to Mars or something. And they’re not special because every oligarch in history has wanted that and every one has failed. It’s as unrealistic as trying to create a philosopher’s stone.
