As in, users were gloating about dead Russians at least as far back as 2016 (witnessed it myself), but calling us “orcs” or “subhumans” usually resulted in mods deleting comments. Although I’ve never heard of anyone getting banned over it, mind you.
This is so horrifying. Was Reddit always this hostile to Russians or did it shift because of the war?

I want to say yes. There was a long time where they were blaming Russian hackers and propagandists for every percieved slight against them.
