      The way I see it, by allowing “marginalized” parties to voice non-conforming perspectives the political establishment can both present the ideas themselves as unacceptable simply based on whose mouth they were voiced from, as well as further discredit the parties which do not confirm to the liberal status quo.

      Which reminds me. There was an article posted a while back by one of our resident lemmy libs talking about how Sahra Wagenknecht (Die Linke party leader) has voiced many of the same opinions as AfD. It was an incredibly cynical piece based entirely on horseshoe theory but it served a distinct purpose: “hey look, both the far left and far right have some of the same talking points. Isn’t that absolutely crazy! Let’s ignore both of them for the safety and security of our democracy.” Or something along those lines.
