New York City owns and operates a public cemetery on Hart Island, which has long been tended by prison labor. Now, prisoners are being asked to dig mass graves.
Is it just me or is it like totaly not moral ? And like I dunno if it is just me who is a removed but like rather then mass grave can you not just cremate people for me I would rather be cremated then put in a mass grave?
Yeah this is some especially fucked up up shit. I get that the bodies need to go somewhere and they can only open so many pop-up morgues. This is a purely economic decision, prison labor is expendable and cheap and the city already owns the land, whereas building more crematoriums is expensive
Traditional Christian values view burial as the only respectful means of disposing of bodies, and they’re at least not just piling caskets on caskets. But it’s still really… upsetting… that they’re not disposing of bodies in a more eco-conscience or sanitary way. What I’m more peeved about is the use of forced labour to dig the graves.
