The villains are obviously based on the US/colonialists/capitalists, like in the previous one. The little difference is that the movie strongly establishes them as pieces of shit, so it can take a more sadistic attitude towards them during action scenes. Like, there are a lot of more grusome deaths against basic soldiers than usual, and I was really like “AHAH DIE COLONIZER”. Very cathartic, and great spectacle overall.
Meanwhile an acquaintance of mine was going all “That movie is silly, why couldn’t they (Earthmen) just glass the place and dig out the magic mineral they need from out of the rubble?”
And frankly given how IRL imperialists behave, they may have a point

Its explained that despite the RDA and space NATO being evil, greedy bastards, it still wouldn’t look good for the capitalists to bomb a planet and killing off natives.

This movie was amazing. Even as a kid the subtext was easy to understand. It wasn’t exactly subtle lol, but if as a kid you understand that “we shouldn’t kill alien insectoids just because they look like insects”, as an adult you understand it to be a critique of fascism and applicable to current society (like all good science-fiction).
So imagine my shock when I first saw the reddit surface layer of the internet willingly choosing not to understand this over-the-top movie for what it is, and clamouring to go kill space bugs because “propaganda video funny”

I don’t know what’s more depressing: people unironically siding with the space fascists, or people who are able to see it as parody but then say it’s the AES countries they apply to.
“Oh no an asteroid mysteriously appeared in the sky and conveniently fell exactly where we were planning to mine but couldn’t because of the natives! We shall dedicate our mining efforts to the brave locals who all perished in this totally natural catastrophe!”
If not the whole planet, then at least wherever the natives were sitting on top of the magic resource
I have the same opinion: since they have already done it, why won’t they continue to do so
