I’d bet it’s because of access to maritime trade routes. Dependent capitalism has historically had some trouble advancing deeper into continents due to lack of required infrastructure (trains), so the most “developed” regions tend to be by rivers, ports and sea. So you both get this local bourgeoisie dependent on foreign trade as well as making it easier to deploy foreign troops for intervention, with carriers and the like.

But it also turns out there just aren’t that many north-pointing peninsula countries in the world, specially outside the Mediterranean Sea. Best I could think of were the Guyanas (both the nominally independent and the French territory) and Suriname, and Israel is sort of north-pointing. There were also some East-West divides in South America, like the Triple Alliance War.
