Israel is now destroyed any shred of credibility US still enjoyed around the world. Everyone can see that what Israel is doing is absolutely heinous, and there is no hiding it. The fact that US is the sole country that continues to stand in the way of a ceasefire shows everyone what US actually thinks of human rights.

Social media has played a huge role in all this. Before internet access became widespread, everyone had a camera on their phone, and people started consuming news from social media, these sort of atrocities were easy to cover up. There is very little coverage of what’s happening in Gaza in traditional news outlets, and people who primarily get their news from TV and mainstream newspapers have an incredibly skewed perspective on what’s happening. However, most young people increasingly prefer getting their news from social media and this completely changes the perception of what’s happening. And we see mainstream western media moan about a generational gap in support for Israel now. They’ve lost trust of young people, and they’re no longer able to control the narrative effectively.

It’s wild that it’s been so poorly handled that the curtains are coming down for Americans but wasn’t that already pretty much how the rest of thenworld already saw America.

Weren’t we also the sole vote against a resolution that clean water and shelter were human rights? I thought we were pretty regularly exceptionally shitty.

I think that’s the view increasingly more people have been arriving at, but this really is impossible to ignore or rationalize away.

People knew what America was, but it wasn’t “canon” so to speak. There’s a big difference between what’s real and what’s publicly regarded as true. Hopefully this shift means that other countries can finally call a spade a spade when it comes to other American atrocities.
