It is quite hard, we have a very skewed perspective, because this community is mostly composed of people at least somewhat well versed on technology and more than likely quite enthusiastic about it. But to most people the computer is a tool that you turn on and just do what it’s used for doing and that’s it, and if something don’t work it’s quite a problem. And to not enthusiasts the idea of a social media platform that does not have a single unified site or app to make an account and start using is absolute madness, furthermore the app or webapp that you use to use the platform does not allow you to create an account, and finding the instance to create said account can be a daunting task for someone who does not now what they’re getting into, so yeah it is a very big departure of what people are used to and it’s far from beginner friendly
Before people come telling that things work like that with good reason and cannot work any different, I get it, but if the user experience is not good, and to my eyes the setting up of it is not a good experience(wasn’t for me at least), it does not particularly matter if it has good reason for it, it’s still not good

Hard disagree from me. People will say “to hell with reddit/twitter/whatever” but can’t afford the 10 minutes to read an article or watch a youtube video on creating an account on mastodon or lemmy? The way I view it, even if the signing up process was perfectly streamlined, these people will find another excuse to leave when they get inconvenienced.
