    Any y’all watch Fire Force?

It looks absolutely stunning and the premise is cool as hell.

It also led me to pretty much writing off shonen anime. The tropes are so abundant and disgusting, like god why. “Japanese nationalists” in the show are represented as having a cooler society, a better way of life, and in being correct in opposing the pseudo-Christian theology of the other Fire Forces. It’s so weird. There’s also a girl in the show where part of her power is she literally has a “lecher magnet” and people accidentally perv on her all the time. Obligatory main-teenage-boy-protag falls on top of her accidentally squeezing her breasts. WHY?

I haven’t watched Demon Slayer much but I’ve seen glimpses of some episodes. The same lecherite tropes and the weird ass rehabilitation of fascist Japanese imagery is so off-putting that even though it’s been recommended to me regularly I’m just gonna pass. JoJo lost me when it rehabilitated literal Nazis in season 2 and also had some pervy stuff played for laughs. Don’t even get me started on SAO. What the fuck is up with this shit? Tokyo Ghoul is cool but falls into similar traps at times.

I’ll just stick with Lain, Perfect Blue, Berserk, NGE, Paranoia Agent etc. I didn’t hate Higurashi When they Cry either. At least when these works deal with sexual topics, especially lecherous ones, it’s dealt with an unflinching seriousness for the most part.

Getting too old to enjoy constantly watching/reading Shounen is a sign of maturity

    • Is Lain good? I watched it as a wee lad and I hated it (I just thought it was a confusing mess), but I was also a bit of an idiot at the time. I had similar opinions of the End of Evangelion and Paranoia Agent

Higurashi was very interesting, aside from some sexualization of teenagers (I first watched it as a teenager, so it didn’t bother me back then). Many memorable moments
