Why do you think he wanted to join NATO? He wanted to be the bottom removed of imperialism and get in on the robbery of the global south. Didn’t work out to well did it.
I mean he could just look at Iraq war which even purely economically was a loss for the imperialist puppets like Ukraine or Poland. Expected gains never materialised, everything was taken by usian companies, expenses for the war were pretty big and existing contacts there were lost.
