So with all the Ukraine fuss the last 2 months I couldn’t really keep up with events there the last couple of weeks. Suddenly there’s Iranian tanks moving towards the border to engage the Taliban and Pakistan has shelled Afghan territory on their shared border.

What’s up with this? What drove those escalations with their neighbors?

After Pakistan’s president Imran Khan was ousted, there were those shellings from pakistan in Afghan territorry. There were also explosions in Kabul, next to a school. I didnt know anything about the attacks on pakistan territory by TTP, they are probably not very recent. The chinese press conference when asked about this escalation answered they hope the neighbours will work it out. I would guess that US are steering things in the neighbourhood only way they can. Taliban government probably cant control TTP (I dont even know what that is…). I think the point of this steering is the following:

“The change in policy carries the risk of undermining Pakistan-Taliban’s ties significantly with impact on trade links and bilateral diplomacy.” - a China’s goal.

Regarding Iran, i m thinking that Iran has all the reasons in the world not to trust the Taliban government, especially interior and defence ministries as they are most surely than not set up by the US, another Pakistan perhaps??

“Qommi said Tehran has raised the issue with the Taliban’s interior and defense ministries, stressing that the construction work should be halted and the issue be resolved within the framework of the joint border commission”

what is the joint border commission? i d guess thats an interesting project…
