It will surely be proposed. They might also, like some other decaying empires, try to switch partially to mercenaries or foreign recruits, i bet there would be plenty of people who would enlist for a promise of citizenship.

Mandatory one year “training” for all males once they are 18 that can be extended for another year.

You’d think after mandatory military training most people would be running for the hills because who would want to suffer through that?

1 year of military service can be summarized as 2 months of hell (basic training), a few months of actual training, and like half a year or more of doing nothing except sudden marching and shooting training.

From the little research I’ve done about the military where I live I’m glad I never ended up joining. I need the money but I don’t think it’s worth it. Plus I definitely don’t want to get shipped off to Ukraine (or Haiti, or anywhere for that matter) if our government decided that’s what they wanted.

If there’s a draft, I’m burning the fucking card and fleeing to China. I don’t give a shit if I have to swim there.

Given how much more difficult it is to cross borders in the 21st century, I wonder if draft dodgers fleeing the US like they did in the '60s and '70s is even possible anymore.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Just gotta get creative.
