American economist known as the father of shock therapy. He was criticized for making pro-China ideas. Obviously, he is not a ML, but he is very pro-China and agrees with China’s poverty alleviation policy. What should we think of him as a ML?

On a more serious note, guy’s a liberal sack of shit who fancies himself a fighter against poverty. Given that his position likely requires him to analyze a lot of data, it means he can’t really ignore what China’s done to alleviate poverty.
However, at the end of the day, he’s still a capitalist. It is possible, however, that he’s more of the opinion “hey, maybe we shouldn’t try to start a conflict we can’t win with China” than “heck yeah, let’s shoot ourselves in the foot, for the teeny-tiny chance of remaining the sole global hegemon”
