  • the possibly white reddit leftcoms here acting like they know more than angela davis is hilarious.

Her work on prisons is lauded but she failed to apply her own principles consistently with regards to USSR.

do you think davis put pen to paper to write some of the best existing theory out there on prison abolition and then just suddenly forgot all of it when it came to the USSR? i wonder what she thinks about a bunch of redditors basically saying they know her own theory better than herself.

  • well surgery to modify genitalia or chest tissue can be a part of transitioning. its not a misconception, it’s just described by transphobes in a way that makes it sound more repulsive than any other medical procedure. it’s important to note that trans people are not the only ones who receive gender affirming surgeries, any cis woman you know who has received breast implants or cis man who has received penis enlargement surgery have both undergone types of gender affirming surgery. but for trans people, its just a way that some choose to transition.

how it works depends on what kind of procedure, but the most common categories are “top” and “bottom” surgery (top of your body, bottom of your body, not the kind of top and bottom you might be thinking of lol). for trans men, operations to remove chest tissue and operations to create a penis from existing tissue (phalloplasty) are the most common. for trans women, operations to add breast implants and to modify a penis into a vagina (vaginoplasty) are the most common. some trans women also get facial feminization surgery, such as a tracheal shave which cuts down the adams apple to make it not visible.

this research shows that gender affirming surgery is more common for trans men (around half of those studied in the linked paper), whereas for trans women it was around 28%. i think these statistics are pretty accurate in my own experience, i frequently meet more other trans women who haven’t had any operations than those who have (i myself don’t want to have any and know a lot who feel the same).

people who have adopted broad left values (anti-capitalism, working class solidarity/liberation, etc.) but lack a sufficient understanding of marxism and theory in general. theory takes backseat to chanting slogans and action, which is useful in limited cases, but obviously it means their actions are often misguided and ultimately worthless for the proletarian cause (see: CHAZ or CHOP or whatever, largely an anarchist thing from what i remember). so sure, you can sometimes see them just doing more in general, but their actions are without regard for any strategy and instead just seek to do whatever seems good in the moment. however, in the worst cases, they are active reactionaries who seek to cause divisions with us “tankies” because the inherently “authoritarian” nature of the proletarian liberation struggle clashes with their teenage-brained “fuck authority! fuck the state!” ideology and actively spread imperialist misinformation about AES.

the game is horrible copaganda and the community is exactly what you’d expect. some of the most popular ready or not gameplay videos i’ve seen involve the player exercising extreme brutality to unarmed civilians. the digital civilians will submit willingly and then the player will just go up and pepper spray them, or sometimes just shoot them because that’s funny right?
