I’ll say this for him, he’s consistent. Hardly a few days go by without him either defending, assigning, or accommodating a Zionist who’s openly opposed him for speaking against the genocide, and he isn’t even inaugurated yet.

It’s so despicable to use this “place of worship” thing as a way to smear protestors like they are interfering with a religious service rather than protesting open and ongoing political organizing (etc.) being done in the building at that time.

It’s like holding a nazi rally in a church and accusing people of attacking a “place of worship” when they protest. Actually it’s worse than that, it’s like holding a sale of land occupied by the nazi party in Eastern Europe in a church. They are dabbing on us.

    This quote,

“He told me, 'Rabbi, I love the idea and I can’t thank you enough,”

A third hand account about Mamdani from a famous zionist

While I agree with you (he himself hasn’t done anything blatant here), his spokeswoman saying he would like to hear more about the pitch is part of an ongoing issue I see with him: he feels the need to treat these people as legitimate and go out of his way to respect them, even when they’re calling him the reincarnation of hitler and inventing new racial stereotypes to apply to him.

The Trump meeting is similar to this, but he lucked out there because Trump is a chaotic gremlin and wouldn’t even let him come up with a diplomatic answer. Cutting Mamdani off before he could start and saying “it’s fine, you can call me a fascist” definitely made him look much better than any answer I could realistically seem him giving.

It seems counterproductive to play nice like this with people who have always hated you and will always hate you instead of just ignoring them. Moreover, it continues to legitimize these people (hitlerites put into power by their acceptability to wealthy donors and lobby groups) as leaders of the Jewish community. In addition, it only gives ammunition to outlets like the NYT.

that’s my biggest gripe with him thus far. he’s not even mayor yet and he’s already compromising on his campaign promises. at least the trump meeting involved a sitting president. what does this one get him? what does it get the people of new york? he’s always softening his rhetoric and it doesn’t give me confidence he won’t soften his actions too

I mean, he’s a lib isn’t he? A socdem lib, but still a lib, “hearing everyone out and treating everyone with civility” is the cornerstone of liberal behaviour.

This could go both ways right?

There is just as much of a chance he is doing lip service to freaks and ghouls so that he can actually make it to his inauguration with minimal friction from the establishment.

However, I still acknowledge there is just as big, if not a bigger chance he was doing lip service to his base. The cynic in me leans this way, but we’ll have to wait and see what kind of centrist he actually is.

You gotta remember that people use DSA as their political vehicle because they fundamentally believe change is impossible. When they get into office, capitulating is the most natural thing in the world.

Yup, that’s where my head is at. I don’t have any faith in the establishment or the US brand of electorialism saving us from itself. I didn’t intend to play devils advocate, just pointing out that him saying “I’m interested to hear more” is just a means to get out of the current situation. I still think he betrays his base, like a normal DSA operative, but it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone who wants revolutionary action.
