I am literally just trying to say: look at this freak I found. The normal libs are the ones carrying the bloody hand print sign from the ZLF. It looks similar to this. In the pic above it has a QR code. The Opposition in general are attempting to co-opt this protest movement.
WHY IS IT IN ENGLISH
Because educated Eastern European libs typically work for corps HQ’d in the US or outside of their country and the lingua franca tends to be English. They’re also quite literally, like Ukrainians were, making an open plea to their favorite global hegemon. It’s a form of “Mister US President I live in poor country yearn to be free send bomb”.
I think Americans don’t realize how libs in many countries outside the “core” EU countries love autocolonization. Iceland is a good example. Their language is anglifying because their strategy at global capitalism is killing it.
For every racist French lib there’s like 10 Eastern European libs who think their own people are various iterations on the Orcs meme.

I’ve tried to look for more info about these protests and any source of info in English is really hard to find. All ‘official’ channels from students I could find are exclusively Serbian and in the pictures they post I see almost never any flags at all and never English signs. Also the contrast with how these protests are covered by media vs the Georgian protests is stark.

I get you’re mad and that’s your right but my point in posting this is that the person with that sign is a fucking weirdo. I was not trying to characterize the protest or Serbian politics. I’m not saying this is representative of the protests. I’m sorry if it came off that way.

This is literally a classic Eastern European ultra lib. It’s a type of guy that’s funny by the act of their own existence.
I’ve edited the post to reflect that. If there’s anything you want me to specifically add to the top I’m happy to do that. My understanding of Serbian is limited and mainly comes from the intersections with Church Slavonic/Russian/Ukrainian.
Thank you for editing the post to clarify the fact. However, I would say this has a much higher likelihood of just being some student who attempted to be witty. Culture here is definitely westernized to a certain degree, and most people know english very well, so this is pretty much the result, as well as seeing certain western memes on some of the banners.
Although I will say, me and comrades I know definitely don’t like the whole bloody hand messaging shit, and it definitely has some liberal undertones. But at the end of the day, the students much like Vucic, don’t actually have an ideology since the protests are just about the country being a criminal, dysfunctional piece of shit.

There’s a few reasons to have signs in English. Palestine protests in the west have English signs because they started off and are still powered by international students/communities.
There’s also lots of Palestinians where I live who don’t speak the local language fluently yet and thus communicate a lot in English.
“Free palestine” is a very short slogan known to many and also it’s an inherently anti-US position to hold given how the US unabashedly supports genocide. More detailed slogans are very rarely in English from my experience
