Russia seems to be playing the diplomacy game quite well. It’s like every week I see a Russian politician shaking hands with another country’s representative. It’s honestly impressive.
There’s definitely some very skilled diplomacy happening in Russia’s side, and the flip side is that western diplomacy has been largely non existent. The west got used to dictating to countries and bullying them, so there’s no love lost with the global majority.
I’ve watched interviews with Russian diplomats and I am always amazed at how level headed they remain even when being thrown accusatory questions and faced with aggression. I wonder if it’s in their education or just a cultural thing. Russian diplomacy is something else.
Russia does have a good diplomatic core, but I think it’s really more that western diplomacy is basically non existent at this point. The US used to have diplomats of this calibre as well, but that all went away in the 90s and now it’s just a bunch of ideologues.
