Even within European countries the level of care a person receives at one hospital compared to another can be shocking, and that’s ignoring the class based healthcare systems most European countries have.

I know someone who had a serious but not uncommon form of cancer. The local cancer clinic said there’s nothing to be done. The clinic just 40km away had a treatment plan ready to go, which was successful in the end.

It can depend on that in America too. I used to live near one of the best cancer institutes in the country. One of the horrifying realizations I had at a young age is that it likes to put people in incredible debt while offering options to everyone as a form of marketing.

My friend had spinal cancer that they got treated and they were on the hook, after insurance, for like 200,000 dollars. Took years to get it negotiated downwards.

I was just thinking the other day, should I ever happen to contract cancer the first thing I’m gonna do is see what kind of treatment is available in China. It really seems to me that in recent years China has become the global leader in cutting edge medical treatments, even if we don’t hear about it much in the west.
