He was bleeding immediately which was the first hint to most people watching via video that something was wrong after he got back up. It’s on so many cameras and NYT seems to have a picture of the bullet or its trail behind him. This is hard to dispute.
Whether it was a bullet or not is impossible to say. It certainly looked like a bullet wound from something that grazed his ear and he reacts in the video like someone who felt something strafe his ear or pierce the upper part of it and it follows immediately from the sounds of gunshots. That’s what they’re claiming, what Trump is claiming but if one is assuming for some reason that this is a lie (why?) then there’s no way to independently verify it wasn’t shrapnel and likely never will be.
