Indigenous Peoples Movement on Instagram: "28th of December marks a tragic day in the history of the Kalmyk people when an entire ethnic group was deported from their homeland to Siberia and the Far East. Today we remember all those who died during the long years of exile. Kalmyks have been rehabilitated and allowed to return to their homeland in 1956. Deportation of the Kalmyks have been recognised as a genocide in 1991. With this post we open the series “Black Days of the Calendar” in which we plan to remind everyone about the crimes of the Russian Empire and its successors in the form of the USSR and the Russian Federation against the indigenous peoples.
