Personally I have been vegan for a year and a half and its mainly due to the fact that I recognise the wrongness in exploiting sentient beings by killing them so that we can eat them, etc etc. Also the DNA of an animal is so close to a human that it could also be considered a form of cannibalism if you eat them (think about that the next time you eat a mouth full of animal flesh)

I lived most of my life being ignorant of the horrorshow of carnist production. After I learned about it, how completely unethical it is, how much suffering it causes to animals who actively resist that suffering, how wasteful it is in terms of land and water, and how damaging to the environment it is, I could never go back. Humans surpassed the need animal consumption more than 10k years ago, with the agricultural revolution. Ever since then, meat consumption has been bourgeois imitation / a modest proposal.

Really nice comment. I agree with you on that point you made regarding the suffering inflicted upon animals. Its just unnecessary suffering so that we can enjoy eating them and exploting them for certain foods, clothing etc? The cost in terms of suffering and pain to these powerless and innocent animals is just wrong.

Also a nice watch for anyone that wants to learn more about animals and how we exploit them in this world I recommend watching Earthings https://vimeo.com/237062854 which goes into the horrors of what we do to animals.

I still have to watch that one yet, I’ve heard its good. I’ve only ever seen dominion, which I watched after I became vegan.

When I recognized that they have their own consciousness, then own interest and, in consequence, natural rights, as any other person, which should be respected.

I’m not vegan myself, but I support anyone who has enough willpower to restrain themselves for the sake of the animals and, by extension, nature. Without a doubt, exploiting animals is immoral and everyone should try their best to reduce suffering and pollution, while maintaining a healthy diet (which I find hard if you have to find substitutes for a lot of things as a vegan and are not a food expert).

It was seeing chickens trapped in cages from birth till slaughter. It breaks my heart so I don’t meat anymore.

Edit: I disagree with you argument about cannibalism. Many animals eat other animals and the differences in the genetic composition in terms of the nucleic acid sequence is what you can consider small but it doesn’t amount to cannibalism.

Certainly animal welfare. After a few years, the thought of something dead in my hands or mouth just seems gross. But, I am also into longevity and a huge percentage of others who are eat a plant-based diet - or. less often, a pescetarian diet- because it is healthier scientifically (not based on some fad diet). It also makes me feel good that I don’t have to worry about nasty odors from rotten meat juices lingering on containers in the trash can (and then my pets trying to tear that apart to get at it). The cost of faux meats pisses me off (it is more expensive than animal products), so I eat either beans or soy shakes for protein. That is a real downside. I love the taste and texture of the faux meats, but cost and availability drive me nuts. I live in an Asian area, too, so know where to find it.

I’m not fully vegan anymore but I also don’t like the idea of hurting and killing “sentient beings” unnecessarily. It also sounds pretty stupid to waste time, space and resources on animals to kill when we can just eat plants directly.

A known person has a blog post in spanish about that.

Is it possible for a vegan stop being vegan?

The thing is that most people confuse veganism to diet or animal welfarism when it is not. Veganism is such as considering individuals from other animal species also people, so not being vegan again is inherently impossible unless someone lost its mind (literally).
