My criticism isn’t of the link or the information you’re communicating in the text. My criticism is of the image you chose to sell it. I know it’s based on the occupation’s flag. When the occupation designed their flag, they used clear visual language to sell a key part of their mythology: that Judaism = “Israel”. They depend on that mythology being adopted by their allies and their enemies. When we repeat their visual language, I believe we help them spread and normalize that part of their mythology. Every piece of propaganda they produce emphasizes the six pointed star in bright clean colors to communicate: “Israel = Jews = good”. When we repeat and invert that visual language (dark sinister colors, blood, etc.) while still prominently centering a six pointed star, I think it’s easy to see how that can still reinforce the central mythology that the occupation needs the world to internalize.
Please understand, I don’t mean to single you out, and I’m not saying you had bad intentions. I’ve seen variations on this image posted as a quote background a few times now, including others putting my comments over it, and it struck me as something I should share my feelings about since I keep seeing it. It just strikes me as an artistic theme that’s easily misunderstood and just as easily avoided without losing anything of value.
?? This is not a meme. I am quoting an Israeli embassy policy and I am linking the embassy website.
