It was cool. I liked how it dealt with the downfall of an obviously neoliberal galactic republic, which tied into the civil war of the original trilogy.
The sequels by Disney unfortunately were a massive failure and did not continue the logical sequence of the political themes. The only way it would have made sense politically would be to show the characters struggling against a sci-fi version of neo liberalism.
But the neoliberals running Disney and directing the movies are incapable of imagining anything beyond capitalism in the first place so we got the retelling of episode 4 in 7 and the subsequent dumpster fires that put any potential stories beyond 9 on very bad ground.
