I think attributing this to a ploy by Iran and Russia undermines the agency and accomplishment of the Palestinian people in this endeavor.

That is true. It is definitely the case that the Palestinian resistance is acting more independently than a lot of people in the West who see Iranian and Russian plots behind everything would like to believe. But i also think that the subtlety and long term strategic planning of Iran and Russia should not be underestimated. Just because they don’t put out the kind of strategy papers that the West and its think tanks like Rand do, doesn’t mean they aren’t doing just as much or more to think through and plan for all possible scenarios.

It is likely that they didn’t know exactly when something would happen in Palestine but that they correctly calculated that something would inevitably happen eventually due to the serious contradictions that exist there. And i think that Palestinian resistance organizations are at least starting to co-ordinate more with the rest of the Axis of Resistance. This coordination is absolutely essential to winning the conflict against the settler colony’s occupation regime and against US imperialism in the region.

This is my impression at least. I don’t know, it could be that Iran, Hezbollah, etc. are all just reacting on the fly to developments that surprised them as well, but i think that is less likely. Overall i tend to trust Pepe Escobar’s analysis, even if he does get a little over enthusiastic and ahead of events sometimes, he has a better insight into these things than i ever will. And it matches up with what other sources like Ali Abunimah and Prof. Mohammad Marandi have been saying as well about the big picture situation in the Middle East.

I am sure that they are, I meant that we should recognize this as what it is and a small triumph in revolutionary resistance, as well as an indication that these superpowers are not invincible and that more history is yet to be written.
