Today was a historic day for the movement in solidarity with Palestine. In dozens of cities and towns across the country, tens of thousands took to the streets to support the Palestinian people’s just struggle for liberation with less than 24 hours notice.

While the government that speaks in our name signs the checks that pay for [neocolonialism’s] massacres, the impressive scale of these emergency actions made it clear that the people stand with Palestine. The ANSWER Coalition is proud to have joined with other organizations in helping to organize and initiate many of these actions. And this struggle is just beginning — mobilizations are continuing nationwide.

The unrelenting oppression, murder, torture and occupation carried out by the [neocolonial] apartheid régime has precipitated a counter-offensive by Palestinian resistance forces. The [neocolonial] war machine, and its attendant systems of oppression, are bought and paid for by U.S. [neo]imperialism. U.S. tax dollars fund the grinding oppression of the Palestinian people to the tune of $4 billion each year.

Many of the actions today were slandered and vilified by politicians who shamefully stand with the apartheid government in [the Middle East]. Protesters refused to be silenced and proudly took to the streets. We know that we are on the right side of history – and those who stand with a racist regime that systematically and horrifically violates fundamental rights are on the wrong side.

The nationwide protests demanded the U.S. immediately end all aid to [the neocolony]. The actions also raised demands for the freedom of Palestinian political prisoners and an end to the blockade of Gaza. As [the apartheid government] pledges to wage a war of annihilation and the Palestinian people remain steadfast in their determination to resist, this movement will continue to take to the streets until Palestine is free!

I only know the Answer coalition from hearing about them here and there. What do they need the donations for? I would rather donate to NGOs helping out families in Gaza than an org organizing protests in the US right now. I think it would be more productive.

Protests are one of the easiest ways to continue on and spread radical socialist ideas. Just today I believe, a handful of European countries recently blocked the EU’s decision to suspend aid to Palestine. Do you think they just did that on their own accord? No, there were revolutionary minded people in those countries who made sure the right ideas were spread.

Point being that you have to reach the masses if you want to actually affect change. Not to mention, the main speakers at these events were Palestinian liberation & socialist voices (or at least the one I went to). If what they were doing was irrelevant, then zionist counterprotestors wouldn’t have showed up, and there wouldn’t be orgs like Canary Mission which has doxxed people I know IRL, and not to mention, the US and Israel wouldn’t spend hundreds of billions on propoganda churning machines to counter us.

on a sidenote, NGO’s are kinda scammy in their own right and often have an effect of deradicalizing people. Despite them being “NGO’s”, they’re often times reliant on the government for funding. At that point, you might as well try to find families to send it directly to.

Could be, but applying pressure to stop those fat checks the US government sends to Israel is probably pretty good for the Palestinian people as well.

I’m not sure protests will stop the checks from going to Israel

While I agree that these protests won’t stop the funneling of money to Israel, increasing awareness in the Imperial Core is still important if we want to eliminate it long term. Protests aren’t for educating or changing the politicians. They are for the people.

While we may never rest under the shade of the tree whose seeds we plant today, we plant these seeds anyway for future generations.

Most likely not, but it is more likely than sitting at home and doing nothing.
