update: trans people are too attractive for beauty contests, too smart to play chess, too strong, tall, and fast to be a professional athlete, always have the moral high ground, can cause floods, alter the environment of the planet single handedly, and can kill god.

It’s wild that the liberal take from 2016 is that Russian disinformation is the only reason people oppose democrats.

If only someone did a study to see how valid that was. If only. But I guess we’ll never know. For some reason this text is clickable. Can’t figure out why, but its definitely not because it’s a link to a study about this very subject.

EDIT: I accidentally clicked on the text and quoted it

We demonstrate, first, that exposure to Russian disinformation accounts was heavily concentrated: only 1% of users accounted for 70% of exposures. Second, exposure was concentrated among users who strongly identified as Republicans. Third, exposure to the Russian influence campaign was eclipsed by content from domestic news media and politicians. Finally, we find no evidence of a meaningful relationship between exposure to the Russian foreign influence campaign and changes in attitudes, polarization, or voting behavior.

yea they don’t realise everything was pegged to the dollar under Bretton Woods

Keynes’ proposals would have established a world reserve currency (which he thought might be called “bancor”) administered by a central bank vested with the power to create money and with the authority to take actions on a much larger scale.

In the case of balance of payments imbalances, Keynes recommended that both debtors and creditors should change their policies. As outlined by Keynes, countries with payment surpluses should increase their imports from the deficit countries, build factories in debtor nations, or donate to them—and thereby create a foreign trade equilibrium.[15] Thus, Keynes was sensitive to the problem that placing too much of the burden on the deficit country would be deflationary.

But the United States, as a likely creditor nation, and eager to take on the role of the world’s economic powerhouse, used White’s plan but targeted many of Keynes’s concerns. White saw a role for global intervention in an imbalance only when it was caused by currency speculation.

Although a compromise was reached on some points, because of the overwhelming economic and military power of the United States the participants at Bretton Woods largely agreed on White’s plan. White’s plan was designed not merely to secure the rise and world economic domination of the United States, but to ensure that as the outgoing superpower Britain would be shuffled even further from centre stage.[34]

@geophysicist@discuss.tchncs.de claiming that queer people are faking it is incredibly uncool and offensive. Stop doing it. You would not claim that a black man isn’t really black because he says something you disagree with because you’d get knocked the hell out. Don’t claim people’s identities are fake because our politics are to the left of yours. You’re literally just abusing other lgbt people with that sentiment by essentially stating “unless your politics align with mine I will deny you the right to your gender”.

@oatscoop@midwest.social blahaj.zone did defend a transphobe, refusing to demod a person engaging in transphobia because they didn’t want to rock the boat and lose the activity of that community definitely unsafe for trans people. They make decisions in favour of activity over trans safety. Being trans or having a shork aesthetic is literally irrelevant to whether they make good decisions for trans people, you wouldn’t claim that Caitlyn Jenner is automatically safe for trans people by virtue of being trans, and if you would then you’re an idiot because she’d sacrifice trans lives for her wealth any day of the week.

Somebody explain to this “oatscoop” dingus what a chaser is

Seriously, we defedded from them because they (among other things) did not ban people for making threads about which surgeries make trans men undateable to them. I saw the thread where they discussed our callout of that, 90% of the posts started with “cis person here” and several immediately went into creeper territory and started discussing girldick (without any actual knowledge how a pre-OP trans woman’s dick works, ofc). Blahajzone isn’t a trans instance anymore, it has largely been taken over by insufferable cissie redditors when they accepted the r/196 lifeboat that ended up turning into 3/4 of their userbase and i pitty every trans person still holding out there.

yeah like that one guy who came here to make a thread telling us to talk less about trans issues and then whined about how we banned him for “fake” accusations of transphobia

I just genuinely do not understand how these fucking rubes seem to genuinely believe that Russia is somehow alone or uniquely powerful in terms of online propaganda or influence campaigns. Like I just want to sit down with these people face to face and try and see if they’ve even considered for one fucking second the idea that maybe literally every single national and private interest that exists, including their own country and corporations in it, are broadcasting propaganda online at a constant 24 hour basis.

They always have some lame shit like “w * ataboutism” to throw out there. Sometimes the mask slips, and they say something like “well, it’s good that my side is doing it” like that makes sabre rattling and more imperialism ok.

They can’t be reasoned with. Lord knows I’ve tried to show them sources. I still get destroyed for saying that Hillary literally gave us trump with the pied piper strategy. They also can’t handle the reality of the Mueller report. They’re back to “trump and Putler sat in smoky rooms, twittling their moustaches while plotting to destroy the earth!” There is no logical consistency in liberal ideology. It’s all about keeping the treats flowing.

Alt-right, far left – basically everything but Liberals and respectable Republicans like Mark Rubio is a Russian psy-op! You can’t get more left wing than me, a neo-con!

Seriously, though, the Russian government does not care what any of us think. General sentiment has no baring on US policy, why would you waste resources influencing it? The “alt-right” ascended to the “mainstream right” in America because young alt-right posters got jobs working for Republican campaigns. That happened on its own, nobody forced the RNC to give them jobs. Stop blaming our stupid stupid politics on some scary computer boogeyman an ocean away.

It does more than undermine it. It forces the question of what is to be done when a large chunk of your country (30%? 40%?) is braying for open fascism, another large chunk is at least fash-curious, and your precious laws and norms are utterly useless to stop them?

It’s probably closer to 20/25%. Half of US citizens don’t participate, and more than half of the people that do participate are pretty repulsed by our right-wing.

eh, even then, I think I’m overestimating a bit. And a chunk of that would be fair-weather fascist, they’d only support it if it looked like it was going to be successful and there weren’t enough consequences for doing so.

The picture of an “Openly Fascist United States” just seems a little too… camp theater, if that makes sense. Like, in terms of our imperial policy, we’re already basically there. “Open Fascism” would just be bringing our international policy back home and implementing it here. And… I think there’d be a crisis of legitimacy before that happened, the country would break apart into regional factions. Those would be where capital-F Fascism, the sort that feeds people into an industrial slaughterhouse, would be at it’s most likely.
