Here are some comments on Twitter about this situation:

This rhetoric seems very familiar and other folks in the replies are pointing out how these people would’ve supported the Japanese internment camps.

This is explicit discrimination and xenophobia, literally mimicking what Trump spouted about Mexican immigrants/refugees.

How are people just okay with this shit? How is it at this point people have still not realized that history is repeating itself? Does this not ring any bells?

I’ve come to the conclusion that some people are just lost causes and it’s going to take something incredibly drastic happening to wake them up. Even then, would that be enough?

“Whiteness” and “Westerness” are “in groups” that are only defined by what they aren’t. They exist as an opposition to the “outgroup” which again, is very ill defined and basically just amounts to “people who aren’t a part of the in group”

These concepts need an outgroup to define themselves, so they will always find some target, even if it means “revoking” white or western status from a group. We’re seeing that with Russia now, we’ll soon see it just as intensely for Chinese people (and Asians in general) and once this war is over, we’ll see Ukranians lose the “westerner” status very quickly and be demoted back to “Asiatic hordes” along with their siblings to the east.

And of course, if you try to explain this to a lib, they will deny it all, but speak to them again in 12-24 months and they’ll be saying the exact hateful, racist rhetoric you said they would fall for.
