Why should a person like this get appeals? Why do black taxpayers get to pay for the mercy granted to someone who deserves neither life nor a quick death? Appeals are for when there might be a mistake and we might be sentencing an innocent person. There’s proof beyond even beyond a reasonable doubt in this case.
Plenty of people in prison are going to worship him. Massive white power underbelly in prison. Also, he gets to pen his memoirs and possibly stir up even more shit on the outside. Plenty of serial killers have done just that.
Also, pretty damn expensive to house someone, even on the bare minimum for survival, for the rest of their life. And some of that money is being paid by black taxpayers, his victims.
There will be those that agree with him, but the vast majority will despise him and his life will always be in danger. His very presence will be a danger, so there is no way he will be placed in General Pop. He will be isolated to a small, lonely box with no contact with other prisoners.
Also it is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive to place someone on Death Row then it is to hold them for life, and it still takes over a decade to execute them. Currently the standard stay is 20 years before execution. Which still gives him more then enough time to pen any memoirs, and runs the risk of turning him into a martyr.
I still don’t want to pay for that.
Why does it have to be 20 years? Plenty of developed countries get it done in less than a year or even less than a month. If we’re assuming that the system is set up in a way that only (1) the worst of the worst and (2) we’re absolutely sure they did it, beyond even the normal doctrine of “beyond a reasonable doubt”, which it absolutely has to be to prevent wrongful executions, why the wait?
I understand your first point, but I am still telling you that it costs nearly 5 times are much to execute someone as opposed to holding them in life in prison.
I also don’t make the laws regarding executions, but the legal process that is undertaken lasts a minimum of 15 years and can take upwards of 22, with an average of 20 years due to appeals, jury selections, governor warrants, and a whole laundry list of other processes.
It takes this long because the US did used to have an expedited execution system for “the worst of the worst” and “beyond a reasonable doubt”, and that system led to states giving improper trails and executing innocent mentally ill black people.
