It was considered not worth the effort for several reasons:

    • it was actually dangerous for the deliverer (the test was performed using a bomber)
    • it didn’t offer much advantages over having multiple smaller warheads in an ICBM
    • it was allegedly affecting local tectonics, as the testing grounds underwent several earthquakes afterwards
    • USSR just wasn’t that interested in nuking everyone else, it’s not USA

Also, “fun” fact: Sakharov himself, the man who would go on to be a dissident, west’s darling and a peace prize nominee, has suggested using the bomb in a torpedo to create tidal waves across US coast. He proposed it to navy Admiral (whose name escapes me for the moment), and the admiral was absolutely horrified at what he called ‘cannibalistic’ idea.

Sakharov was a disgusting traitor. I read about him a while ago.

Try asking a lib how come USSR built the world’s first nuclear reactor (for a power plant), if they have only created the bomb second.

Gee! It’s almost like the USSR still gave a shit about the individual American people even though they hated their government!
