All the disability aid programs here are managed individually by province and every single one is well below the poverty line, have massive restrictions (can’t make a certain amount in income, too many assets, no spouse/partner, etc.) and can be taken away with no notice and at the smallest offence.
You also can’t be a student while on disability aid. I’m on my provinces disability aid and I’m going to university which means my benefits will change. They can be completely taken away or I’ll get something else. They’re purposefully vague with their terms and conditions.
Because of how little people get on these programs and how hard it is to even get approved (especially for mental health reasons, I got lucky) most are now choosing MAiD.
Instead of providing people with accommodations they need (which would be so easy it’s not even funny) the government would rather kill them off.
