That’s a ridiculous claim. There are far too many variables to know that, and the US was just one among many. Does the USSR not share some blame for its own extensive meddling?

No, USSR does not share any blame for what US did to Afghanistan. USSR helped Afghanistan put people into space, then CIA decided to start arming and funding extremists there to turn it into what it is today. Your country is responsible for the horrors in Afghanistan and many other places in the world. The people of US who allow their government to carry out these atrocities are directly responsible for this.

The USSR also staged a coup in 1979 and installed a loyalist. To attack the Mujahideen, they bombed villages to the ground. They also laid millions of land mines. The USSR was every bit involved in screwing up Afghanistan as the US has been. And at least the US was fighting to build the country instead of bomb it into the ground.

US trained and armed extremists who are currently in power in Afghanistan. Your country was on the side of barbarism as always. At least show minimal human decency and own the atrocities you people did. You destroyed a progressive socialist nation and turned it into hell on earth. Countless people died because of what you did. It’s obscene.

It really is telling that a generic, mindless, low effort insult to the US is what’s getting upvotes here.

Extensive meddling? The USSR was more partial to doing the odd military equipment trade and meddling over the eastern european republics. The USSR had no prior intentions with afghanistan, and only intervened after the government there requested such an action.
