It’s like that thing where it still takes several business days to send a bank transfer. I can post a shitty meme on Lemmy and get it ferried across the fediverse in seconds, through random $5 a month VPSes and Raspberry Pi’s on someone’s residential internet connection cosplaying as servers, but a bank with a literal mainframe (mainframes are most commonly used by financial institutions) needs almost a week? Also, wtf is with business days? Does the metal and silicon computer have go on holiday or something?

Bank to bank transfers in Europe are next-day and free. Some banks have partnerships with other services that do instant transfers, sometimes free but not always. Going back to Canadian banking would be such a frustrating step backwards.

More than merely frustrating. I’ve missed bill deadlines and got fined or had to pay interest because of this bullshit. I’d thought paying my bill from my bank account a few days in advance would be okay, apparently not.

Now that I think about it I had similar experiences. Apparently having sufficient funds in the account on the day of withdrawal isn’t enough to avoid a rejected payment and penalty fee.
