Why are libs so quick to defend the US? They act like the criticism is directed towards them personally, it’s bizarre. They can acknowledge that this country is gerrymandered to hell and that our representatives are the employees of rich businessmen instead of public servants… but then they defend every policy these politicians make as if they’re the politicians themselves.
Maybe it’s a side effect of the nationalism that the US tries so hard to instill in their populace from a young age. Results, probably quite intentionally, in any slight to the country being perceived as a slight to them personally. Which isn’t the case at all, I don’t necessarily discount all USians due to where they are born until they give me reason to, which most do.
On that note, do US children still do that weird daily flag pledge thing? Always seemed particularly dystopian to me.
Yes we still do loyalty oaths every morning before class starts and oftentimes kids have to say it even when they’re doing school remotely. Like, they recite the prayer with their classmates on a zoom call lol.
Even though it’s technically illegal to force anyone to say it, it’s rare that the option is seriously presented to kids and respected by teachers.
Yeah, it takes until middle and high school for students to realize and stop saying it, even though they still have you stand for it if you don’t say it
If they believed you could do better than liberal democracy, they wouldn’t be libs!
So they acknowledge all the problems because they’re the Adults In The Room but chalk it up to “every other system is worse, so I guess we have to vote harder.”
