    But most consumers are used to having a constant barrage of adverts being dumped on them. It blows my mind when I see my friends and family subject themselves to ads on YouTube and such. It takes some time to get out of that mentality.

    Same, I haven’t had cable TV for like 10+ years, and every time I go to my friends or fam’s houses, the barrage of ads is so gross and I have such a visceral reaction to them that I almost need to leave the room. Meanwhile they’ve become totally inured to it.

    Thx for that article, imma read that soon. If you haven’t I highly suggest reading Cialdini - The psychology of persuasion, there’s an audiobook for it on torrents. He’s a psych prof that went undercover for several years into various sales jobs, distilled nearly every sales tactic down to a few psychological tricks they use, and wrote a book on it. Once you learn them it becomes so transparent that every single ad you see, you be can easily tell which trick they’re using… rules 2 and 4, rule 1, etc.
