I wonder if this war will be viewed as an extension of the 19th century western European powers trying as hard as possible to prevent Russia from obtaining a warm water port in the Black Sea?
It feels almost like the west’s goals towards modern Russia are just ones they pulled out of the archives that they left there in 1917.
The shape of the land masses doesn’t change meaningfully in a few hundred years. If geography is the same as it was 200 years ago and the means by which military power is projected is the same (in this case naval capabilities), you can assume that geopolitics are the same too. The only thing that has changed somewhat are the tactics that are applied and the players of the game.
I was implying that the attitudes haven’t really changed either, it’s still 19th century western chauvinism on full display, but yeah, overall strategy of “containing” an enemy nation isn’t going to change really.
Why wouldn’t it be? There was never a revolution in the west after the bourgeoisie ones. Same class is in power as it was then. So it was always going to be either that, or anti-communism (see the Entente invasion of Russia after the revolution)
