Just thought this exchange was funny:

When you are doing a lib parody to point out that someone is literally parroting mainstream lib talking points, and your interlocutor (censored because i don’t want to call anyone out or start any kind of drama) accuses you of being the lib…

Let this be a lesson to everyone that the use of sarcasm when arguing online is a bad idea.

You have to understand that if we step out of the alt-media echo chamber and into corpo media’s warm embrace, it will whisper sweet nothings in our ear.

The irony of that statement is that most of us probably still come into contact with more mainstream corporate media and its talking points on a daily basis than we do “alt-media”, because the former are just so ubiquitous, they’re unavoidable, whereas you actively have to seek the latter out.

I mean even the sources that get posted here on grad and over on .ml are very mixed, with plenty of mainstream media articles being shared, and we are far from the rule when it comes to internet spaces. The overwhelming majority of internet spaces are way more of an echo chamber…and not of “alt-media”.

These talking points about how Russia and China are supposedly secretly doing really badly and therefore desperate to capitulate to the US, the notion that these are something completely new to us that we never hear because we live in an “alt-media” bubble is just laughable.

Unfortunately something that i’ve observed in a lot of leftist spaces is this phenomenon where basically just bog-standard liberal takes get repackaged in leftist language and then portrayed as these totally novel, sophisticated and subversive ideas that bravely challenge the “traditional” anti-imperialist narratives.

Peak sarcasm is when the upvotes and downvotes are neck in neck.
