I mainly just start following blogs I think are cool that are linked on social media.

Curious how other people find their blogs.

from newsletters, or “this week in …”-style of posts, “weekly roundup”-style of posts, news aggregators (HN, reddit, and hopefully I find my first good blog on lemmy soon too!). And when people shameless plug it, of course (example: mine!).

But the real bummer is, when they don’t support RSS :( When there is a related project on github, I check if they make use of releases and then watch releases only, that’s the next best thing.

You can also subscribe to gtihub releases via rss. Dont remember how but there must be some explanations online.

I vaguely remember that I have read about that somewhere, yes. At least for me, it’s not really necessary though, whether I have it in my feeds or my mail, doesn’t make much difference to me. Or rather let’s say, it’s not worth the additional effort.

Yeah I just learned this last week! You can just whack .atom at the end of the releases url to get an atom feed.

this tool automates that so that helped bootstrap my blogroll. Having one place to toss that stuff, and, crucially, managing it outside of the reader that I might use at any given moment to consume it, helps a lot.

Blogs linking to other blogs is the best though.

For now I find them on mastodon. First I followed people that post and boost alright. Then I go to each boosts profile and get their blog feed.

I search for the name of someone and then I discover a blog, but is so rare. Illustrators are always in these garbage proprietary social medias.

I mostly read programming and technology blogs, which I discover through their articles being posted to Reddit, Lemmy, etc
