Prompt jockies aren’t “artists.” Nobody is “going after AI artists” because there is no such thing as an “AI artist.”

People hire established and reputable graphic design firms to make their logo and style guide because the people that hire them are not artists, so they hire artists. They give the artists a prompt to go by. In exactly the same way AI prompt jockies are the client, not the designer.

There is no such thing as an “AI artist.”

honestly this one believes one can use AI in the process of making art , but that requires work outside entering a prompt : editing the image to remove artefacts , adding ones own artistic work , composing several outputs together , and tweaking the generation procedure . if someone does several of those then in its opinion they deserve the title of an “AI artist”

What is it with the extremely common tendency for some of the most privileged groups out there to act like they’re some of the most marginalized individuals ever?

(directed towards hypothetical AI bro) Like, you are given some of the most advanced technology humanity has to offer, it’s given to you on a silver platter, for pennies on the dime. Data centers are constantly being built nearly everywhere, and you probably don’t even have to experience the worst of climate change resulting from it, given you can probably just crank up the air conditioner even higher or install dozens of premium grade $300 HEPA filters on every single vent of your house. Almost everything in this world has been designed for people like you, and you still have the fucking gaul to act oppressed because people don’t like that you take part in an environmentally destructive hobby?

Also, not to mention, these people would, ironically, probably be willing to do the exact same things to “others” (POC, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, anything that isn’t a straight white man) and they wouldn’t even bat an eye. I can describe these people in one single word, and that is cynical. They want something (in this case, sympathy) and they will do literally anything to get it, even if it means this type of shit.

To paraphrase Paolo Freire: equality looks like oppression to the oppressor.

If people call them out on how their actions are negatively impacting others, they get defensive because they feel like they’re losing something.

They want to be the oppressed underdog because every narrative they’ve ever encountered portrays said underdog as the hero.

The peril of having mythical struggle as one of your cultural pillars.

Not to get all up-yours-woke-moralists about it but a bunch of ancient prehistoric myths concern the overthrow of the old cosmic order to usher in the new current age. It’s a very old and common story. So even the gods have to be an underdog at some point to justify being on top. They had to earn it.

Tech bros: “Everyone is scum except for me, especially you in particular artists. It is shameful anyone ever goes into art, so automating you is top priority. Enjoy toilet scrubbing, losers!”

Tech bros: “Ooooh art community?! I’m joining! I do art with compooper because I’m super smart and with it. You luddites should leave it all to the clankers like I do!”

Tech bros: “WHAT?! What do you MEAN I’m not welcome this community?!? This is discrimination! I know I think discrimination is good, but no one is ever allowed to dislike me ever!”

Does anyone else remember how dominant Godwin’s Law was in last decade’s online discourse? Like how if you dared to bring up the fact that scholars had labelled Trump’s detention centers for migrants as concentration camps, people would claim that even mentioning the Nazis made you hysterical?

Why would we employ an entire anti-AI police force? If the government is anti-AI, it need only ask the huge AI companies to train their models to tell people that AI art isn’t art. Can’t be anti-AI if the inherently hugely biased AI is instead biased towards you catgirl-smug

Cool how it went from “AI is just a tool bro, why u so mad bro, are you a luddite why are you against better Photoshop?” jackasses to

“But but AI is an integral part of my human identity, you don’t understand what it means to be born with an unconditional love for AI, you don’t understand what it means to be looked at funny for liking AI, why do you hate us? We`re just victims being persecuted for our identity”.

Its just pathetic because it was always clear the whole tool argument was never going to convince most people so now they try to appropriate other issues, try try to appeal to our common sense of fairness. But then you ask them where was that fairness and kindness when you just support billionaire corporations stealing data and our creative work to create your “tool”.

As if photoshop necessitated millions of people working for free or a massive planet destroying level of infraestructure to function. The only irony is Adobe embracing AI may well turn it into that lol.

And of course another day, another instance of bastardization of the word “AI”, LLMs should be banned on this alone. Machine learning and other approaches are not inherently evil, but turning LLM into “AI” is already doing irreversible harm.
