It is really necessary to display the gay flag everywhere now?
Everyone is free to do whatever they want with their lives but remember that not everyone is suddenly gay. I think the project doesn’t need to stuff any gender ideology to thrive.
Eww look at Mlem being inclusive and open-minded and all.
Being inclusive and open minded is not putting the gay flag everywhere.
It is being tolerant, kind and considerate with everyone your interact with in your real life. I think we reached a point where we think that just with a few words and displays we are instantly open minded and tolerant.
Many are saturated of this and don’t say anything just because they are afraid of cancellation.
Why do you hate that it’s there? It doesn’t matter if it is or isn’t, but it seems to bug you.
I don’t hate it nor like it. I am just arguing that it isn’t necessary for the app to thrive. Maybe that is why David left, too much bullshit? Just a though…
Gay community is all tolerance and inclusion until someone disagrees, it seems… 😅
Oh the tolerance…
Not everything needs to be done “for the app to try”; some stuff can also be just the expression of support for something
Your comment makes me think you are trying to tone police what others do.
I don’t hate it nor like it.
“I just felt it was necessary to make a post to complain about how I shouldn’t have to look at it. You know, the regular way people engage with something that they definitely don’t feel strongly about.”
Probably to show support and maybe it acts as a repellent for anti-LGBT folk as a bonus.
But I wonder if there are closeted people that would prefer not to display LGBT symbols on their phone in order to stay undercover/safe.
Nothing says “Stay out of my DMs, homophobes!” like an animated rainbow emoji as your phone background.
No. Gays are cool and good. Get used to it.
It’s pride month. Asking to not see it everywhere, especially during Pride month, is a dog whistle that might indicate you aren’t as inclusive as you wish to say. “You can be who you want, just not in front of me”.
Nothing is “necessary” though
And you don’t need to be gay to display a rainbow flag, nor does a rainbow flag mean that you’re gayThat much is clear but I remind to everyone to stay on topic which is gay community intolerance and cancel culture. Wasn’t it?
Oh no… we deviated!
How can anybody have a discussion with you on this if you wont clarify your views beyond dropping buzzwords like “cancel culture” and “gay community intolerance”?
That much is clear thanks. But I reminded to everyone to focus on the main topic which is gay community intolerance and cancel culture.
What do you mean “the main topic”? The thread is about you asking why the mlem icon has a rainbow flag, and people are answering you about this; this is not thread about “gay community intolerance”, I don’t think it’s the appropriate place for this since this is a community about a phone app for Lemmy
sarcasm will catch you in a few minutes.
I don’t get what you want people to say though; people already answered on the topic of “why is the flag there”
You seem very predisposed to making vague allusions to how you think the gay community is inherently intolerant and is willing to “cancel” people unfairly over things. Can you explain more about your views on the gay community so we understand the basis for your beliefs?
It’s Pride month. Seems like a good month to include Pride stuff. Pride, amongst other things, is about normalisation which helps towards equality. No one can sensibly argue that LGBTQ+ people are treated equally yet, right? So fly your flag, it doesn’t do me any harm and it does millions of people some good.
“Pride month” Wasn’t enough with a day like everyone else?
Who is “everyone” else in your argument?
It is clear that not everyone agrees with getting the gay flag plastered everywhere.
The cancel culture dogs are unleashed, the smelled the blood.
Mlem has been taken over by fanatics, David was right to flee the boat.

sure, not everyone would probably put the rainbow flag on the icon of their app. This is true for every choice. Not everyone would pick the font the mlem developers chose, or the color palette of the app, etc. but people can make the choices they want for their app, no?
-
nobody is “cancelling” anyone though? People are just telling you what they think? Which mat be different from what you think. Who is getting “canceled” and how?
-
do you know for a fact that David left because of this or are you just speculating?
-
I support freedom to give our opinions without getting cancelled. Where is that flag guys?!
What if those opinions are immoral? Like, what if somebodies views are that certain groups of innocent people ought to be murdered?
Do you think my opinion is immoral? That says a lot.
I’m not sure why you think I said that when I didn’t, but it’s clear that your response doesn’t directly address the question I asked? We can come up with a more concrete example. Say community A has a person B and person B very vocally holds the opinion that all people in community A besides thenself ought to be murdered. What is morally wrong about community A ostracizing person B?
