“A boy is stranded alone on a ship in a storm and receives help from a mysterious magical dwarf. Uses just 358 different Chinese words.”

They seemed to really like this author on Reddit. I downloaded this ebook but haven’t read beyond the first page yet. Let me know your thoughts.

Is this a, err, “real” book from Mainland China?

It is definitely made for English speakers learning purposes. if I remember correctly, it contains English and Pinyin in separate places from the hanzi, and is made by a native Chinese speaker working with a native English speaker. Not a volume that would show up on a bookshelf in mainland China. From the imagin8 press website, it sounds like Jeff Pepper is an Anglo scholar of Chinese, and Xiao Huiwang is a Chinese scholar of English, which seems like a good duo for making this sort of thing, lol

Good point about the last part. Better an Anglo-Chinese duo for this sort-of thing.
