Canada should give 'urgent consideration' to legal mechanisms as a way to combat residential school denialism, says a new report from the independent special interlocutor on unmarked graves.
The article is quite vague on wether this refers to laws about restricting thought and speech, or is more focused on the expression, by simply prosecuting the attacks perpetuated under the existing criminal code and general shared values. I would be extremely worried for Canada if it was the former. Restricting thought and speech is the avenue towards enshrining existing and future injustices.
I get your point, but this just like the Paradox of Tolerance - to have a tolerant society, you have to be intolerant of intolerance. It is rare that people are questioning things like Canada’s history with residential schools in good faith.
